"A surreal estate agent with real success stories" - DIY Danna Communications is an independent copywriter, editor, and publisher based in Austin, TX.
"I have 20 years total experience as a published writer, copy editor, editor, and publisher; 6 of those years editing and publishing an online anthology dedicated to women in creative arts, writing and entertainment - Lipstick Pages - and nearly 4 years experience as an entertainment journalist, with a focus on music and performance arts. As publisher of a creative webzine, and freelance contributor to various publications, DIY Danna Communications is focused on the art of enlightenment and entertainment. Music, theater, film, comedy, photography, visual and performance art have always interested me. My writing explores the creative processes and bios of innovative independent artists who don't fit the popular culture mold - they break it. I'm a current contributor to The A.V. Club Austin/The Onion and INsite Austin, and since 2005 I've contributed as a freelancer and staff writer to Whoopsy!, Hyperactive Music Magazine, and Soundcheck. Over the past few years I've also added the roles of talent booking agent, music video production sales agent, and photojournalist to my resume as a result of my passions and connections in the arts and music communities that mix well together. Yes, I'm definitely an Austin arts and music lover."
"Growing up in a world of book, music, and art lovers has shaped who I am as a writer. After graduation from high school with honors (where I was named "Who's Who" in English and Orchestra), I attended the University of Texas at Austin on scholarship. After graduation, I entered the workforce as a technology manufacturing operator, a popular trend in the 1990s. But my heart belonged to the fields of publishing and communication. I continued to write poetry and fiction while working, and after starting a creative feminist zine Lipstick Pages in 2003, I decided to further develop my writing talents by becoming an entertainment journalist. In 2005, after joining INsite as a contributor (submitting my first Austin interview - with Zeale), my first interview to be published featured a conversation with hip hop group Little Brother, and appeared in the August edition of Whoopsy! The rest is history - and some it can be viewed at my press clips page. Besides working as a freelance journalist, I'm also a regular contributor to the literary publication Haggard & Halloo, and an aspiring novelist.
