Lighted switches are often a part of the interior of a home. They may be in a bathroom, bedroom or entryway. They can also be in a garage or a utility room. They can be wired to a circuit and control lighting or other electrical devices.
Generally speaking, illuminated switches don’t need to be wired any differently than regular rocker switches. That said, they do have a few special features that make them different.
First, illuminated switches are designed to trickle a little current to the LED light built into them without using a neutral connection. This allows the switch to turn on and off depending on whether the switch is on or off.
Second, they have a small, round LED indicator on the front that lights up when the switch is turned on. This makes them easy to see when they’re in use.
Third, they have a protective cover that turns off the lights when they’re shut. This helps to protect against accidental overheating and damage.
Fourth, they have a terminal that is connected to the ground that can be used to connect a power source. This is a good way to connect other appliances that need to be powered from a separate source.

Tenth, they have a terminal that is tapped off of the center of the switch that can be used to send electrical current to a light when the switches are on. That’s a great way to add a light to a space that has a lot of other lights and doesn’t need the switch to be in a place that people will see it when it’s not in use.
